School lunch time is a very important part of the day. All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 benefit from the the Government’s offer of Universal Infant Free School Meals. Our varied menu contains both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options and special diets can be catered for on request.
The school meals are prepared and cooked at our neighbouring school, St Michael’s Junior School by an independent catering company Chartwells.
From Monday 17th April 2023, there will be a new menu (see below): [click to open menu]
Twerton Infant School is proud of its Healthy Schools Status. This award was given in recognition of the work we have done with the children with regard to healthy eating and developing healthy eating habits.Healthy Lunches
To help support our work we need your help in promoting a healthy packed lunch. If your child is bringing in a packed lunch please could you ensure that it is healthy. Please do not include sweets in the packed lunch and perhaps only include crisps a couple of times a week. Drinks may be brought in but not fizzy drinks or those in glass bottles, or cans. Packed lunches should be brought in a named unbreakable container.

Children will return all uneaten food and debris to their lunchbox at the end of lunch. This is so that parents can monitor what their child is eating.
Bagels every morning
At the start of each day, children are offered a bagel which they eat while the class attendance register is taken.
Milk and Fruit
Free milk is provided for all children during the Reception year, if your child does not drink milk we will provide water or feel free to send in a carton of juice (no fizzy drinks please). All children throughout the school will receive a piece of fruit a day.
Allergies
Please inform staff of any allergies your child may have as this is vital especially during lunchtimes or cookery.
